The Gainsborough GO Festival 2025 proved to be a spectacular success, bringing together a unique blend of art, performance, and community spirit that captivated attendees from all walks of life. From interactive theatre to immersive experiences, this year’s festival offered something for everyone.
One of the highlights of the festival was Encounters by Stalker Teatro, a visually stunning and interactive performance that invited audiences to explore human connections through simple props. Inspired by ancient texts, this innovative show encouraged collaboration, allowing participants to create beautiful, unexpected images together. Set in the heart of Gainsborough’s historic market place, Encounters brought a truly immersive, artistic experience to the community.
For families and festival-goers of all ages, Fish Boy by 2Faced Dance was a joyous and poignant adventure that didn’t disappoint. Following young Tommy Minton on his quest to find his best friend, Fish, the performance celebrated friendship, environmental issues, and the power of perseverance. Combining incredible dance, circus, and theatre, Fish Boy left audiences laughing, cheering, and fully engaged in this heartwarming tale.
Equally captivating was The Whale by Talking Birds, which offered a one-of-a-kind, intimate theatre experience. This giant metal whale ‘swallowed’ audiences whole, inviting them into its belly to meet a nautical character who shared stories, songs, and messages of environmental importance. Performed for small groups or individuals, the immersive nature of The Whale was a standout attraction, drawing smiles and creating lasting memories.
The festival also saw the return of the Colour Burst Dance, a breathtaking performance by G-Town Dance, featuring a community-created murmuration of birds. This specially commissioned movement, alongside vibrant costumes designed by Curiosity Creators, was a dazzling highlight that added an extra layer of creativity and color to the day.
The Community Stage was another crowd favorite, showcasing local talent from groups like Rhythm in Movement, Queen Elizabeth’s High School, and The Skip Murden Band. This platform provided an opportunity for residents to shine, further reinforcing the festival’s spirit of community and collaboration.
Additionally, the festival’s interactive workshops and activities, including family yoga, craft workshops, and the popular Urban Chalk pavement art, kept everyone engaged throughout the day. In partnership with the Gainsborough Rotary Club, pedal car racing and a fun duck trail around town added an element of lighthearted adventure for attendees of all ages.
The town itself was transformed, with colorful decorations created through community and school workshops, making Gainsborough come alive with movement and creativity. The atmosphere was further enhanced by craft and charity stalls, as well as the Shelf Life exhibition, which celebrated national landscapes.
As the festival drew to a close, performances like The Wind in the Willows, a delightful musical brought to life by Trinity on Tour and Emersion Theatre, rounded off the day perfectly. This classic children’s tale was an enchanting finale that left audiences reflecting on the magic of storytelling.
With its blend of world-class performances, engaging activities, and the celebration of local talent, GO Festival 2025 was a shining example of how arts and culture can bring a community together. Thanks to the support of West Lindsey District Council, Arts Council England, and Gainsborough Town Council, the festival was an overwhelming success that will no doubt continue to grow and inspire for years to come.
