Marshall’s Yard gears up for annual Father’s Day tractor event

Tractors lined up in the car park for Marshall's Yard's annual tractor event

Marshall’s Yard will be celebrating its proud industrial heritage this Father’s Day as the much-loved annual Father’s Day Tractors event returns to the centre.

Taking place on Sunday June 21st, the event will see more than 20 original Marshall tractors and steam engines on display throughout the Yard, giving visitors the chance to get up close to the historic machines which helped inspire the centre’s name.

The tractors and engines were originally produced at the Britannia Ironworks, founded in 1848 by William Marshall, which once occupied the town centre site now home to Marshall’s Yard.

Running from 10am until 4pm, the event attracts families, visitors and tractor enthusiasts from across the area. As well as the impressive vehicle displays, families can enjoy free face painting, a tractor scavenger hunt, tractor-themed craft activities and a selection of food vendors.

The annual rally has become a popular fixture in Marshall’s Yard’s events calendar since the centre first opened, offering a special opportunity to celebrate the history of the site whilst bringing the community together for a fun family day out.

The development team behind Marshall’s Yard, lovingly preserved several historic buildings and the Britannia Statue which overlooks Beaumont Street when the centre was given a new lease of life as a retail, office and leisure development in 2007.  The steam crane which once operated in the factory, is now an entrance feature at the Yard.

Melissa Clement, Centre Manager at Marshall’s Yard, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the tractors and steam engines back to Marshall’s Yard for our annual Father’s Day event.”

“The day is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the history of the site and remember the important role the Marshall factory played in the town. It’s also a fantastic day out for families, with plenty of activities for children to enjoy alongside the historic vehicle displays.

“We’re very proud of the Yard’s heritage, and this event is always one of the highlights of our summer events programme.”
